PETALING JAYA: The proposed rates for the Sales and Services Tax (SST) and the full list of tax-exempt items are expected to be confirmed in the next two days.

Customs Department director-general Datuk Seri Subromaniam Tholasy said the list is in the midst of being finalised.

"I do not expect there to be major changes to the proposed list," he said, referring to the list currently published on the Customs website.

He told reporters this at the launch of Ops Bimbing SST on Monday (Aug 27), which is an initiative to help businesses transition into the SST regime.

About 3,000 Customs officials would be stationed throughout the country to help the 79,618 businesses registered under the SST, he said.

He added, however, some 5,000 companies have yet to register under SST.

He urged these companies to do so by this week.

"All you need is 10 minutes to register," he said.

The SST, which is replacing the Goods and Services Tax (GST), is coming into force on Sept 1.
