KUALA LUMPUR: Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai’s appointment as special envoy to China does not violate the principles of the Pakatan Harapan manifesto, said Anthony Loke (pic).

The DAP national organising secretary said the Pakatan manifesto stated no political appointees for government-linked companies (GLCs).

“The Malaysia China Business Council is not a GLC, it is just to facilitate the relationship between Malaysia and China.

“I do not think that it violates any of the principles under the manifesto,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby on Monday (Aug13).

Tan, who is DAP chairman, was appointed on Aug 1.

Loke expressed confidence that Tan was capable of balancing his role as envoy and as a lawmaker.

“We think he is qualified, the Prime Minister has confidence in Tan and sought his help to build relationships with the Chinese government,” he said.
