IGP: Nationwide crackdown on illegal gambling begins as police arrest 113 at Rawang

RAWANG: Police have arrested 113 people following an operation against illegal gambling here.

"We raided 10 gambling dens here and arrested 41 operaters and 72 gamblers," said Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun, who attended the operations.

"We also seized 208 slot machines and 73 simulators," he said when met at the scene on Friday.

He added that this was the beginning of an ongoing effort to erradicate illegal gambling nationwide.

Federal and state police from the Anti-Vice, Gambling and Secret Societies Division (D7) started the operation at around 6pm at Bandar Baru Rawang on Friday (July 27).

Mohamad Fuzi was joined by Federal CID director Comm Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd, Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Mazlan Mansor and Bukit Aman D7 principal assistant director Senior Asst Comm Datuk Rohaimi Md Isa.

He said police would investigate if these dens were operated by secret societies.

"We do not rule out the possibility that these outlets were operated by one syndicate.

"When we began raiding, we were shocked to see a 10-year-old girl in one of the premises. Further checks revealed that her two parents brought her with them while they gambled there," he said.

Mohamad Fuzi urged anyone with information of such activities to contact the police immediately or visit the nearest police station.
