Melaka cops: Murder suspect nabbed after he went back to burgle victim's house three months later

MELAKA: Police managed to solve a murder case in Alor Gajah after the suspect went back to burgle the house where the victim was killed three months later.

Police were left without any leads in the murder of 56-year-old woman, whose body was found clad only in a towel.

The victim was believed to have been strangled to death during a break-in at Kampung Tg Limau in Pulau Sebang, near the Negri Sembilan border on April 29.

Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Jalil Hassan said no evidence was found at crime scene and the murder investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code remained incomplete.

"The victim, who was unmarried, was the daughter of an eminent person and lived alone," he said on Thursday (July 19).

DCP Abdul Jalil said police got a break when the 28-year-old suspect tried to burgle the same house on July 9.

"This time, his luck ran out and police managed to nab him," he said.

Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed that he had broken into the woman's house and did not expect to run into the victim, who was in the bathroom at the time.

"He strangled her before making his escape with the loot.

"He came back to the same house three months later, hoping to get more of her belongings," he said.
