BN reps in Negri reminded to steer clear of royal matters

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional assemblymen in Negri Sembilan should steer clear of matters involving the royal institution and focus on serving the people, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Barisan chairman said elected representatives should prioritise the people’s welfare rather than become involved in disputes concerning the state’s royal and customary institutions.

“My advice to our assemblymen is not to interfere any further in matters involving the Dewan Keadilan dan Undangan (DKU) and royal institutions.

“We should focus on serving the people who elected us and gave us the mandate.

“Matters related to the royal institution should be kept separate from politics and state administration, ” he said.

Ahmad Zahid said the state government was preparing its Budget for 2027 despite the situation involving the executive council.

The Negri Sembilan royal crisis erupted when four Undang declared the removal of Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as the Yang di-Pertuan Besar.

The dispute deepened last month when the state executive council recognised the purported removal, which led to the Ruler removing the exco members.

On the upcoming Melaka state election, Ahmad Zahid said discussions on political cooperation had been finalised and the outcome would be announced by state Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh soon.

The Election Commission has fixed Oct 31 for nominations, Nov 10 for early voting and Nov 14 for polling.
