New names proposed for Mavcom chairman post

PUTRAJAYA: The Transport Ministry has proposed new names for the position of executive chairman of the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom).

Transport Minister Anthony Loke (pic) effectively confirmed reports from sources, saying that current Mavcom executive chairman Tan Sri Abdullah Ahmad was stepping down.

"I have submitted proposed names to take over the position to the Prime Minister, and it is his prerogative to choose the right person for the job.

"What I can say is that whoever the new appointee is, there will definitely be a pay cut. As for the quantum of it, I will announce that later," Loke told reporters after flagging off a Porsche convoy to Bangkok in conjunction with its 70th anniversary celebration here on Tuesday.

Loke had previously revealed that Abdullah's salary was currently about RM85,000 a month, which was four times more than what Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad earned.
