Char koay teow master is back in business

GEORGE TOWN: Char koay teow lovers, take heart. The famous Siam Road Char Koay Teow is open for business again after it went “missing in action” the past few months.

Char koay teow master Tan Chooi Hong, 77, served up a pleasant surprise by showing up at a coffeeshop, not far from where he used to operate his pushcart stall.

It was speculated that Chooi Hong, who ran the stall with his son Kean Huat, 53, fell ill several months ago and family members had advised him to rest.

Last year, his stall was ranked 14th in the top 50 list of the World Street Food Congress 2017 held in Manila.

Those craving for Chooi Hong’s char koay teow can visit 82, Siam Road here from noon to 7pm daily, except on Sundays.
