Don’t bring shame to culture, Indian performers told

INDIAN performers at religious and cultural festivals should be mindful that their performances do not bring shame to the culture, Tamil Nesan reported the Malaysia Tamil Kappagam as saying.

Association president Dr S.V. Lingam, who spoke to the daily, was referring to the video of a performance at a festival in Klang, Selangor, which went viral online.

The video allegedly showed a woman in undergarments dancing on the stage.

Lingam, who is also Tamil Bell Club Malaysia national president, said such a performance was harmful to the sanctity of the temple.

 

> The Railway Board of India has warned that a 2,000-rupee (RM118) fine will be slapped on those taking sel­fies inside railway stations, Makkal Osai reported.

The measure was announced a day after selfie fans celebrated World Selfie Day on June 21.

The board, which is the control­ling body for the national railways and reports to the railways minister, announced that from June 22 selfie takers inside railway stations are subject to fines but pictures outside the stations are fine.

There have been several incidents of people being hit while trying to take selfies in front of moving trains, including a recent case in Chennai where a young man was killed.
