Man wins RM1mil lottery after buying ticket for charity from disabled person

PETALING JAYA: A man who supported a lottery company’s charity won the RM1mil draw after he bought tickets from a disabled seller.

“Last week, the winner from Kajang came forward to claim his RM1mil cheque,” said Pan Malaysian Sweeps Sdn Bhd in a statement on Friday (June 1).

"Recently, he noticed that Big Sweep had transformed into a charitable company as all surpluses from Big Sweep will be donated to the Yu Cai Foundation (YCF), which is a charitable organisation that nurtures talent through education."

After learning of the change, the man started buying more tickets as a way to support the YCF.

The statement added that the ticket was sold by a disabled person who made his living selling tickets around the Seremban, Semenyih and Sungai Long areas.

“While he was having lunch at a coffee shop in Seremban one day, he was approached by the disabled ticket seller and he bought 10 Big Sweep tickets without hesitation,” added the statement.

It said, besides the winning ticket (number 2561225), the man won another RM900 from the nine tickets, as the numbers matched the first four digits.

The YCF was launched in 2015 with a noted interest in promoting “the learning of vernacular languages” as it believes that it was fundamental for the preservation of cultural heritages.

Yu Cai, in YCF, means “nurture talent” in Mandarin.

YCF is a charitable initiative by Ananda Krishnan Tatparanandam and Usaha Tegas Group. The foundation was officially launched on Jan 28, 2015.
