KUALA LUMPUR: Former Election Commission (EC) chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah passed away at 2pm on Friday (April 10) at the National Heart Institute (IJN) due to health complications at the age of 71.
His third daughter Aleena Fatin said her father reportedly suffered a heart attack on Tuesday before being rushed to Putrajaya Hospital.
"On Tuesday, my father suffered a heart attack and was taken to the emergency ward of Putrajaya Hospital. That evening he was admitted to the High-Dependency Unit (HDU).
"Today at 10am, the doctor instructed us to refer him to IJN but on the way he suffered another heart attack," she said when contacted.
Aleena Fatin also informed that upon arrival at IJN, the deceased was given CPR and was declared dead at 2pm.
Meanwhile, the EC in a post on X expressed its condolences to all members of the deceased's family.
"Condolences to all family members of Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah, former EC chairman.
"May the deceased's soul be blessed and placed among those who believe and do good deeds,," according to the post.
Hashim had served as the chairman of EC from 2016 to 2018 and was also the former secretary-general of the Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Ministry, in addition to his last position as Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) board member.
Meanwhile, Aleena Fatin also announced that 'solat jenazah' will be held at Surau Al-Mizan, Precinct 8, Putrajaya after the Maghrib prayers before being buried at Taman Selatan Muslim Cemetery, Precinct 20, Putrajaya after Isyak prayers. - Bernama
