ARAU: Bintong assemblyman Datuk Seri Azlan Man has been sworn in as the Perlis Mentri Besar for the second term.
The 60-year-old was sworn in before the Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail in Istana Arau at about 11.15am on Thursday.
The state has been without a Mentri Besar for two weeks since GE14 after Perlis Barisan delivered a letter on May 12 to the palace which said that Datuk Ismail Kassim commanded the confidence of the new state assembly.
Ismail, who is Tambun Tulang assemblyman, is also the brother of state Barisan chairman and former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim.
Barisan won 10 of the 15 state seats in GE14.
Azlan graduated from the University of Denver with a degree in international economics.
He joined Malaysia’s diplomatic corps and among the posts he held was an appointment in 1999 as Malaysia’s Permanent Mission Counsellor to the United Nations.
In 2011, he was appointed the deputy director of the Public Complaints Bureau.
Azlan left the civil service in 2013 and returned to his home state to contest in GE13.
