China's Tiangong-1 falls to earth

KUALA LUMPUR: China's Tiangong-1 space station crashed into the South Pacific Ocean on Monday morning (April 2).

National Space Agency (Angkasa) director-general Dr Noordin Ahmad said the space lab's entire body was destroyed and burnt during its re-entry at 8.15am.

"There is no debris left on the surface of the earth and no damage or injury has been reported so far," he said in a statement here.

He said Tiangong-1's altitude drop-rate was lower than previously predicted.

"This is the result of weak solar activity, and it affected space weather, determining the force of friction on Tiangong-1 during its re-entry," he said. - Bernama
