Family and friends pay final respects to Sanusi


KUALA LUMPUR: Family and friends of Tan Sri Sanusi Junid paid their last respects to the former Kedah mentri besar and agriculture minister.

Sanusi, who passed away at home in Pantai Dalam yesterday morning, was laid to rest at the Bukit Kiara Muslim cemetery here after Friday prayers.

He leaves behind his wife Puan Sri Nila Inangda Manyam Keumala and seven children – four daughters and three sons. He was 75.

Sanusi’s daughter Amanda Ruhul Hamidah, 40, said that her father’s death was unexpected as his health was in excellent condition.

Sanusi’s funeral prayer was attended by prominent politicians, including former prime ministers Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, adviser to the Government on socio-cultural matters Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim, Agriculture and Agro-Based Industries Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek and Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Johari Baharom.

According to a Bernama report, Sanusi’s son Akhramsyah said Sanusi died at about 6am as he was about to join his wife for morning prayers.

He said Sanusi attended the launch of the Pakatan Harapan manifesto the night before without showing any sign of health pro­blems.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak expressed his condolences over the passing of Sanusi on Twitter.

“Condolences to the family of former Kedah menteri besar Tan Sri Sanusi Junid who passed away this morning. His contributions to UMNO and the BN will be remembered and cherished. May his soul be blessed by Allah SWT. Al-Fatihah,” he said.

On Facebook, former internatio­nal trade and industry minister Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz said she had lost an old friend, who was only five months older than her.
