Don’t worry – savings and data untouched by fire, says EPF

PETALING JAYA: Don’t worry, your Employees Provident Fund (EPF) savings have not gone up in smoke.

The EPF gave an assurance to its nearly 15 million members that their retirement money and data had not been compromised in the fire that broke out at the EPF building here yesterday.

“We would like to assure members that there has been no compromise to data integrity or member savings in any manner,” the EPF said in a statement that was released to the media after the unfortunate incident.

The fire broke out at about 11.50am yesterday, engulfing about 40% of the six-storey building, according to the Fire and Rescue Department.

According to the statement, the social security institution has a total of 14.72 million members as at September 2016.

The total number of active and contributing members is 6.83 million, while the total number of active employers is 541,503.

The statement said that the EPF Crisis Response team was working closely with the Fire and Rescue Department to ensure the fire did not spread to any other floors or surrounding areas.

“As safety of customers and staff is our prime concern, the building has been totally evacuated, and office and counter services are closed until further notice.

“We will continue to monitor the situation as it develops and will provide an update once the branch is back in operations,” EPF said in the statement.

Members and employers who wish to perform any transactions with the EPF are advised to contact or visit the nearest EPF branch.

Alternatively, members may call the EPF Contact Management Centre at 03-8922 6000 or forward their enquiries via the myEPF website at http://enquiry.kwsp.gov.my.
