SONGKHLA: Thai police have arrested three Malaysians, including a pregnant woman, in Haadyai here for allegedly being involved in a call centre scam.
Songkhla Immigration Police chief Major-General Jeksada Yaisoon said the three Malaysians and a local resident were detained when withdrawing money at an ATM in Haadyai on Friday.
“They were responsible for withdrawing money from ATMs on the syndicate’s instructions,” he told reporters here, adding that the suspects were given 2% commission for every withdrawal.
He said the two men, aged 43 and 28, and the 26-year-old pregnant woman, were from Ipoh and were believed to have been working for the syndicate for the past two months.
Jeksada said Thai authorities found 17 local and Malaysian bank ATM cards, various local bank books, cash, withdrawal slips and identity cards after detaining the four suspects.
They are being detained at the Haadyai police station for further investigation, he said.
On Tuesday, a 38-year-old Malaysian was detained in Bangkok and was also believed to be working with a call centre scam syndicate.
According to Thai police, the suspect revealed that he was given a 4% commission for money withdrawn from an ATM and would leave Thailand immediately after completing his work. — Bernama
