Ops Sarang dragnet nabs traffickers and junkies in Kuantan

KUANTAN: The Kuantan district police arrested 116 suspects for various drug related offences during its first Ops Sarang of the year.

Kuantan police chief Asst Comm Mohd Noor Yusof Ali said the 105 men and 11 women aged between 20 and 45 tested positive for drugs. 

He said the operation, which started at 11.30pm on Wednesday (Jan 24), and ended at 4.30pm Thursday (Jan 25) was led by Kuantan Narcotic Crime Investigation Department head Deputy Supt Wan Zulkifly Sahabaludin.

“The operation went well, no one was injured although there were those who tried to escape,” said ACP Mohd Noor at the Police Sports Complex in Alor Akar here.

He said the arrests were made at Jaya Gading, Berserah, Gambang, Gebeng, Cherating, Sungai Lembing, Tanjung Lumpur, Bukit Goh and Panching.

He said eight of those detained were being investigated for drug trafficking, 16 for drug possession, while the rest for using drugs.
