UMNO must help its coalition partners MCA and Gerakan wrestle back Penang as they are like madu (sister wives) and cannot live without each other, said a delegate.
Datuk Mohd Zaidi, who is from Permatang Pauh, said it was Umno’s duty to help MCA and Gerakan bring DAP down in Penang, vowing to win six seats during the coming election.
“We cannot let them drift away. We have to help them,” he said, describing both MCA and Gerakan as good sister wives to Umno.
“It’s not easy for us to find good madu. If we don’t take good care of them, who’s to say the new ones we may get will be as good as them?
“DAP is so arrogant in bashing our madu. We cannot just stand and watch,” he said, adding that Penang Umno would help MCA and Gerakan win six seats on the island.
“Our component parties and Umno are like a pair of shoes.
“Although one foot is a step ahead and the other is a step behind, we are going in the same direction,” he said at the Umno General Assembly.
Mohd Zaidi also hit out at the Opposition’s tactic of creating and spreading viral videos and photos which supposedly painted Barisan Nasional leaders in a bad light.
For example, he said, a photo of Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid walking on a table during his visit to a school in Penang during the floods last month was misinterpreted as him not wanting to get his shoes wet.
“He wanted to test whether the tables were sturdy enough for students taking SPM the next day.
“If the tables are not usable, the minister will get the blame,” he said.
