Boat used to move casket

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A family in Desa Damai here was forced to send the casket of a family member to higher ground on a boat after their home was flooded.

A family member, who declined to be named, said the funeral of his 98-year-old grandmother was supposed to be held tomorrow after the wake. She died on Friday.

“Since the whole neighbourhood was flooded, we felt it was not appropriate to have the wake.

“So we borrowed a boat to transport the casket to the Chinese funeral parlour in Berapit to continue with the wake there,” he said, adding that the process went smoothly amid a drizzle.

Videos of the boat with the casket on board have gone viral.
