Abdul Rahman wants Ambiga to reveal her source

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan (pic) is challenging Datuk Ambiga Sreevanesan to disclose her source of information about alleged financial transactions between 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), PAS and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

According to an article on the Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club's (BNBBC) website, Abdul Rahman, who is Kota Belud MP, said the disclosure was needed to ensure that the former Bar Council president's accusations were based on facts and not otherwise.

Abdul Rahman was quoted as saying that they had for many years been asking Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown to reveal her source regarding allegations that top leaders in PAS had received money from Najib.

"The information is needed to conduct a thorough investigation into all the allegations against 1MDB, but Rewcastle-Brown insists on not disclosing the source," Abdul Rahman, the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, said on Tuesday.

"Suddenly, she named Ambiga as a source after coming under pressure during a court session," he said.

Abdul Rahman, who is also Barisan Nasional strategic communications director, expects Ambiga to continue to remain silent.

A news portal reported that Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown had named Ambiga as a source of information behind allegations that top leaders in PAS had received money from Najib.

According to a defence and counter-claim statement, Rewcastle-Brown said she spoke to the former Bersih chairman in July 2016 regarding Najib, 1MDB and PAS.

In a court filing dated Oct 11, Rewcastle-Brown said Ambiga had told the defendant that her sources, whom she said were reliable, estimated that the amount given was around RM90mil.

Rewcastle-Brown's defence statement was filed in relation to PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang's defamation suit against her in April this year.
