Tahfiz schoolboy death: Investigation papers to be forwarded to DPP

JOHOR BARU: Police will forward investigation papers on the death of religious school pupil Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mohd Ghaddafi (pic) to the deputy public prosecutor.

Newly appointed state CID chief Senior Asst Comm Azman Ayob, who was previously Muar OCPD, said police would seek advice from the DPP on the case.

"The case is still on-going and there is no such thing that it will be closed, as claimed by certain parties," he told reporters at a press conference here on Tuesday, following the handing over of duties from outgoing Johor CID chief Deputy Comm Police Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat to him.

DCP Kamarul, who was the Johor CID chief for the past two years, has been promoted to deputy director of the Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department.

In a statement on Monday, Ministry of Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Mohamad Thaqif had died due to leptospirosis and other complications.

Dr Noor Hisham added that a special inquiry was set up to investigate the case, comprising forensic consultant experts who were experienced in handling such complicated cases.

On April 19, Mohamad Thaqif was warded following alleged abuse by the school’s assistant warden, who is an ex-convict.

The schoolboy’s legs had to be amputated due to bacterial infection. The infection also spread to his right arm.

He died on April 26.

The assistant warden was charged with allegedly abusing the victim but was freed on a RM20,000 police bail on May 3.
