KUALA LUMPUR: Whether for fun or to get in shape, cycling is a great way for people to come together, says Rebekah Yeoh.
“When we cycle together, it strengthens bonds whether it is among family, friends, co-workers or the community,” added the 24-year-old corporate finance manager at YTL Corp Bhd.
Yeoh described Ride for Malaysia, an event jointly organised by Star Media Group and rising property developer Sunsuria Bhd, as a good platform to boost national unity and patriotism.
“As Malaysians, we live in an environment of diversity where we learn to respect each other’s cultures, religions and food.
“An event like this is a great way to bring us all together.
“After all, anyone can cycle. It doesn’t really matter how old you are, what you do or where you are from, everyone can get on a bike and cycle... at their own pace, of course!
“With our busy lives, cycling is a way to spend time with friends or family while getting fitter,” said the fitness enthusiast.
When she can’t cycle outdoors, Yeoh pedals away at indoor cycling studio Flycycle for at least an hour daily.
“Even indoors, there’s beauty in how a group of people can cycle in unison. I find that everyone has a great time working at it together,” Rebekah added.
- Ride for Malaysia will flag off at 6.30 am on July 30 at Sunsuria City. There is a Fun Ride of 30km and a Family Ride of 5.5km. For more info and registration see: http://sites.thestar.com.my/rideformalaysia
