‘Bleach in wheat flour safe’

PETALING JAYA: The Health Ministry has assured the public that the benzoyl peroxide used as a bleaching agent in wheat flour is legal and safe.

“Benzoyl peroxide has been assessed and certified safe for use in food by international rating agencies, namely the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA),” said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement yesterday.
