Najib welcomes A-G's statement on SRC, RM2.08bil donation

PETALING JAYA: With the conclusion of the probe into SRC International Sdn Bhd and the RM2.08bil political donation, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said it was time for Malaysians to unite and move on.

Najib said on the Prime Minister's Office Facebook that he welcomed the statement by Attorney General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali who found no criminal offence being committed by him in the two cases.

Earlier, Apandi told a press conference that he found no evidence to show that the donation was "an inducement or reward for doing or forbearing to do anything in relation to his capacity as Prime Minister." (Read: AG says no criminal offence committed in relation to SRC, RM2.6bil donation)

Apandi has told the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission that the two cases should be closed.

Here is Najib's statement:

"I welcome the statement issued today by the Attorney General, Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali. The findings followed a thorough investigation by the relevant institutions, and he has confirmed what I have maintained all along: that no crime was committed.

I appreciate that political funding is a topic of concern to many people. That is why I first initiated political funding reform proposals in 2010.

Unfortunately, these were blocked by the opposition at the time. However, I have instructed for them to be put forward again for discussion.

This issue has been an unnecessary distraction for the country. Now that the matter has been comprehensively put to rest, it is time for us to unite and move on.

I will now redouble my focus on the key issues that matter to Malaysia, especially combating the threat of terrorism, and strengthening the economy in the face of global headwinds."
