Mara chairman says no instructions to terminate sponsorship for Taylor's students

KUALA LUMPUR: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chairman Tan Sri Annuar Musa says he has not been informed of any decision to discontinue Mara sponsorship for Taylor's University students.

He said Mara loan and scholarship recipients from the university would continue to be sponsored as per the current agreement pending further instructions.

"I have not spoken to the Minister about this. Based on the newspaper report, I was made to understand that it could be for future enrolments.

"I am not sure of the reason, but reports are saying it is because the Minister was unhappy over the university's decision to cancel a bus operator's contract," Annuar said.

He was referring to an announcement by Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on Monday that Mara would stop sponsoring Taylor's students.

It is believed that the termination stems from unhappiness over the private university's decision to terminate the contract of a bus operator after it was found to have ferried participants to last week's Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu using buses bearing the Taylor's logo.
