RM50mil campus for TAR UC in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: A RM50mil permanent campus for the Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) in Sabah will be built next year.

MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai in announcing this at the Sabah MCA annual meeting yesterday, said the new campus would be set up at a 2ha site in Alam Mesra near University Sabah Malaysia.

“It will be the first permanent campus for the university college,” Liow said on the campus that opened up in Sabah in 2002.

TAR UC is currently using rented premises in Penampang, near here.

Liow said they hoped to start work by early next year and were now in the process of submitting the development plans to Kota Kinabalu City Hall.

Sabah MCA passed a total of 10 resolutions.

This included fully supporting the party president’s transformation programme as well as a proposed move to enlarge the central working committee with more members.

Other resolutions include asking the Government to scrap tourist visa for tourists from China to spur tourism as well as urging both the state water and electricity companies to reduce tariffs to help businesses which are now facing higher costs with recent hikes.

They also urged the Federal Government to provide the state with advance security equipment for the Eastern Sabah Security Command to ensure that the people and tourism were secure.

There were also resolutions to call for the Government to build more affordable houses in the state; to make Sabah a regional shipping hub; and for the government to recognise the Unified Examinations Certificates.
