GEORGE TOWN: A third case of rabies has been confirmed in Penang.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng (pic) said the 65-year-old victim was from Balik Pulau.
"This is the second case reported from Balik Pulau after the first one in Seberang Prai," Lim told a press conference at Komtar Monday.
On Friday, the man, who was bitten by an infected dog, showed no symptoms of rabies infection.
Other cases in the state involved a 44-year-old man from Pokok Sena, Seberang Prai, on Sept 8 and an 11-year-old boy in Taman Nelayan in Balik Pulau on Sept 14.
Both were hospitalised and have since been discharged.
Lim had declared that all strays in the state would be captured and put down.
Health officials said victims bitten by rabid dogs must be treated quickly.
Symptoms include fever, muscle pain and headache, which will lead to brain swelling, seizures, paralysis, coma and eventually death.
