PETALING JAYA: The family of Deputy Public Prosecutor Anthony Kevin Morais wants the public to stop spreading conspiracy theories over his disappearance.
His brother Richard said they were deeply disturbed by some of the things being spread on social media.
“I hope everyone out there can stop coming out with conspiracy theories on how and when my brother went missing.
“It is a very trying time for the family so I hope people can understand and not take advantage of this episode,” he said yesterday.
Richard said the police should be allowed to investigate the matter.
“I am sure they will get the answers. I have faith the police will be able to find my brother,” he said.
Kuala Lumpur CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Zainuddin Ahmad said police have recorded statements from 10 people, including family members.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said police were not discounting a link between the murder of Arab-Malaysian Development Bank founder Hussain Ahmad Najadi and Kevin’s disappearance, adding that all angles were being looked at.
“Whatever we do, we have to base it on facts. We can’t just give statements as Kevin is still missing,” he told a press conference.
“Noor Rashid said police will analyse all CCTV cameras along the road or any place which Morais could have gone to.
“We are also checking with the Immigration Department if he had left the country,” he said.
A portal quoted Hussain’s son Pascal as saying Morais might have knowledge about a meeting involving Hussain, his wife Chong Mei Kuen over a land deal at a temple on July 29, 2013.
When the two were leaving the temple, a gunman appeared and opened fire, killing Hussain on the spot.
Morais, who was previously seconded to the MACC, was reported to have left his home in Menara Duta on Friday morning.
