Umno Youth: Extradite sex blogger Alvin Tan

PUTRAJAYA: Umno Youth wants the United States to extradite controversial sex blogger Alvin Tan for his Facebook posts deemed offensive to Muslims.

In a recent post Tan showed a tattoo bearing the name Allah on his thigh.

Umno Youth exco member Rafiq Naizamohideen said Tan had offended Malaysians, especially the Muslims too many times.

"First, it was the bak kut teh post during Ramadan. He then posted a video of him mockingly singing the Azan, which is the Islam call to prayer and is sacred to Muslims. Now, he has posted a photo of him with a tattoo of Allah.

"We want to government to extradite him to Malaysia so he can face the law.

"If we do not act against Alvin Tan, it will set a negative precedent, in which more people will feel they could get away with offences by committing them overseas," Rafiq said after delivering a memorandum to the Home Ministry here.

The memorandum was handed over to Rizmel Nazrin Abdul Malek, the special officer to Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, urging the ministry to work with the US government to extradite Tan.

Rafiq, also president of youth group Pemikir Muda Malaysia, said  if Tan could not be extradited, then the government "as a last resort" should revoke his Malaysian citizenship.

Rafiq later went to Wisma Putra to hand the same memorandum to Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican.
