Dreams now a step closer for award-winning cadets

KUALA KUBU BARU: Two police cadets who won awards are a step closer to their dream of joining the force after their studies.

Fifth Formers Muhammad Irsyad Mohd Muyiddin and Nur Hamiza Alam Syah were among 436 secondary school students who took part in the Kuala Lumpur Police Cadet Corps Camp at the Geo Kosmo National Service Training Centre here.

The 17-year-old cadets received the Best Platoon Commander Award from City deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Law Hong Soon at the close of the five-day camp on Wednesday.

The two students gleamed with excitement after receiving the award.

Irsyad, a student at Putrajaya’s Sekolah Sultan Alam Shah, said being a police cadet boosted his confidence and taught him how best to work with others.

“The best part about this camp is making new friends with students from other schools. Being in a boarding school, I’m not able to go out a lot.

“I joined the police cadet corps in Form Two. My advice to future cadets is to be mentally prepared before signing up. Don’t underestimate your own strength,” he added.

Irsyad said he planned to join the Police Undergraduate Voluntary Corp (Kor Suksis) upon entering university.

“I may join the police force after I graduate, but it depends on my results,” he said.

SMK Segambut student Nur Hamiza said she joined the police cadet corps in Form One, adding that becoming a policewoman had always been her ambition.

“I’ve always wanted to be a policewoman, that’s why I joined the corp. Encouragement from my seniors also helped.

“Being a police cadet taught me to be mentally strong, disciplined, independent and a team player,” she said.

Nur Hamiza said she wanted to become a policewoman to serve and protect the country.
