PBS threatens BN over hudud Bill

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) has threatened to reconsider its position in Barisan Nasional if the ruling coalition backs the implementation of hudud in the country.

Deputy president Datuk Dr Maximus Ongkili said it had always been the PBS stand that hudud was not required in Malaysia.

He said there was sufficient Islamic legislations in each state to protect the sanctity of the religion.

“The Constitution, on the other hand, protects all religions practised in the country,” he said when closing PBS’ Mukim Ulu Bengkoka annual general meeting in Kota Marudu late Monday.

Dr Ongkili’s statement comes in the wake of growing concern in Sabah over hudud which has been voiced by state Barisan component parties.
