Appoint new Opposition leader, Zaid tells Pakatan

PETALING JAYA: Former law minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim (pic) has urged Pakatan Rakyat to quit its “childishness” over Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s absence in Parliament and to appoint a new Opposition leader.

He said there was no law which allowed a prisoner to be outside jail.

“Pakatan making noises about Anwar not in Parliament is childish. Under what provision of the law prisoner allowed to be outside prison?

“If there is none then you move on. You cannot expect BN (Barisan Nasional) to break the law to please you.

“Appoint a new leader is the sensible thing to do. Wearing black is good for movies but changes nothing,” he said in a series of tweets on Monday.

Zaid was referring to the decision of some Pakatan MPs to wear black in Parliament on Monday to protest Anwar’s imprisonment as well as the Prisons Department’s refusal to grant him leave to attend the session.

Anwar was sentenced to five-years jail on Feb 10, after the Federal Court upheld his conviction for sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.
