Terry said his father became his pillar of strength after he lost his mother Audrey Tan when he was just nine.

“My younger sister Sheryl was only one-and-a-half years old at that time and both my dad and I formed a strong bond as we took care of our family together. We were best friends," said Terry.

He said his father played a pivotal role in encouraging his dream of becoming a renowned bodybuilder when he first showed interest in the sport.

“I was 17 and wanted to become a bodybuilder. I went to my father and told him of my dreams and he helped me achieve it," said Terry.

Gene, a former supervisor with a construction company, leaves behind Terry, 45, and Sheryl, 37, as well as youngest son Jean, 28, from another marriage.

His remains will be kept at the Gui Yuan Funeral Parlour, Jalan 229, Section 51A, Petaling Jaya. A wake will be held at 8pm on Saturday.

The cortege will leave for Malacca on Monday morning for burial at the Cheng Christian cemetery.
