Pengkalan Kubor by-election: PAS chided over use of monks' picture with party leaders

TUMPAT: Siamese Buddhist monks here a neutral group and should not be used as tools by certain political parties out to achieve certain goals.

Inong, who represents the Siamese community, chided PAS for using a picture of party spiritual adviser Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat and Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob with the monks, and distributing it to the Siamese community here as tactical ploy to show that the monks supported PAS.

“Poster and buntings have been put up here and there by the PAS election machinery to woo Siamese voters in the Pengkalan Kubor by-election.

“The institution of Siamese monks is sacred and neutral, they do not take sides to any political party.

“What PAS has done has backfired as the posters of the revered monks was found and inadvertently trampled by people.

“This has irked the Siamese community and the attempt by PAS to use the monks as a political ploy is regarded as desperate and unethical,” he said in a press statement issued here on Wednesday.

Boon said PAS should apologise to the Siamese monks and community in public, and remove all posters or buntings of the monks or he would lodge a complaint with the Election Commission over the matter.
