PAS muktamar: IS doesn't understand jihad, says Hadi

BATU PAHAT: PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang (pic) has told members to not interfere in the Syrian conflict amid widespread support from the party’s leaders for slain jihadist Mohd Lotfi Ariffin. 

"Let the Syrian people determine their country's future without any foreign interference,” he said in his opening policy speech at PAS' 60th general assembly (muktamar) here on Thursday. 

He said the party has never allowed its members to be involved in any militant groups whether in Iraq or Egypt that go against Islamic teachings.

Hadi also denounced the Islamic State (IS) militant groups, saying they were a group of extremists who would kill their own people without understanding jihad.

Some party leaders had preciously praised and paid tribute to Lotfi who was killed after falling into coma following an ambush against rebel militants on east Hama last week.

Lotfi, who was Kedah PAS Youth exco member, however, was sacked from the party last May.
