She said tourists joined the queue (for food) because they did not know that the food were meant for the homeless.
“They think Malaysia is so generous in giving (free) food to everyone,” she said after a meeting on skills training programme for female youths here.
Rohani said she had suggested to non-governmental organisations which organised soup kitchens that they distribute food at proper places instead of on the streets.
“While I am grateful that they give food to the homeless, I told them that by doing it on the street, other people will also join in.
“This defeats the purpose," she said.
Last week, Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor announced the ban on soup kitchens within a 2km radius of the Lot 10 area in Bukit Bintang.
