Trade links between both countries stretch back over a thousand years. During the Ming Dynasty over 500 years ago, Admiral Cheng Ho landed in Malacca (the first of at least five visits) and in 1411 the founder of Malacca, Parameswara, went to Beijing to pay his respects to Ming Emperor Yung Lo.
