Lorry catches fire on Federal Highway, traffic piles up

PETALING JAYA: Road users have been advised to avoid the Federal Highway and use alternative routes as traffic is backed up due to an accident where a lorry caught on fire earlier Thursday.

The accident happened near the Setia Jaya KTM Komuter station, but had a rippling effect on traffic, bringing other vehicles to a crawl.

Although the accident occurred around noon and the fire had since been extinguished, roads are still congested and moving slowly.

According a tweet by Star Radio Traffic, traffic is backed up in both directions at PJ Hilton, and from Midvalley to Subang.

Traffic from Desa Waterpark off the East-West Link is also slow.

One motorist had to resort to stopping at a nearby shopping centre to wait out the traffic.

"As I was leaving Subang at around 11.30am, the southbound stretch heading to Shah Alam was jammed. This was from Motorola right down to the EPF building towards Mid Valley Megamall.

"As I was returning at about 3.30pm, the jam was still there on both sides so I got out at Amcorp Mall. Some of the shopkeepers at Amcorp told me they had customers cancelling appointments due to heavy traffic," he said.
