GEORGE TOWN: A housebuyer went down to his knees in an attempt to get Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to listen to his plight over a RM100,000 additional charge that a developer had allegedly hit him after he bought a low-medium cost home.
Mohd Fairul Ilias, 33, was with a group of 52 housebuyers who chanted and held placards as they picketed at Komtar against the developer yesterday.
“On Nov 12 last year, I welcomed my newborn and a few days later got an offer letter for an LMC unit at Bukit Gambir for RM72,500.
“Now, I have been asked to pay RM172,000, a package which includes a parking bay, renovation and others,” he said, adding that he could not afford that kind of money.
He appealed to the Chief Minister to intervene. The group dispersed after Lim’s special officer Marziah Muhd Mukhtar came down to receive a petition with the names of the affected buyers.
State Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh said later he was surprised by the complaint as the developer had agreed not to impose additional charges.
“The price is RM72,500 per unit and you must follow. I will call the developer to get an explanation next week,” he said.
