Demolition of illegal food stalls in Teluk Bahang turned ugly

BALIK PULAU: A demolition exercise on illegal food stalls in Teluk Bahang turned ugly as the enforcers were shoved aggressively by locals and NGOs.

The locals, members of Penang Perkasa, Persatuan Mukabuku, Pekida and Al-Ehsan were seen waiting at the stalls in front of Teluk Awak Flat in Jalan Hassan Abas, 200 metres away from National Park entrance.

The operation, jointly participated by officers and workers of Land and Mineral Office, Penang Municipal Council, Works Department, District Office, as well as policemen moved to the site at about 10.15am on Tuesday with a bulldozer and several lorries.

The NGO members then surrounded the officers, started to heckle them and asking them to forego their plan.

At the midst of the discussion, the group started to act aggressively by pushing, shoving and slapping the the officers, believed to be from the Land and Mineral Department.

The police managed to calm down the group before the machines and enforcers left the scene.
