Demolition of Sg Pari flats to be determined by appointed developer, says Perak Housing Board CEO

IPOH: The demolition of the Sungai Pari flats will be determined by the appointed developer, says Perak Housing and Property Board chief executive officer Zaiteena Wan Nasir.

Zaiteena said a developer was appointed early this year to redevelop the area and any decisions would be made by them.

"So the developer has the right to appoint whoever they want to carry out the demolition.

"We believe the developer will probably appoint someone in-house," she told reporters after the opening of the Bumiputera Property Aspiration Programme by Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad here on Wednesday (July 29).

"So it's not necessarily the case that those who submitted proposals will be selected because the developer may want to ensure safety in terms of how the demolition is carried out," she said, adding that the site where the flats is located have also been handed over to the developer.

The Perak Indian Traders Association has on Tuesday (July 28) offered to demolish the abandoned Flats for free due to safety concerns.

The offer would involve demolition works, rubbish clearance, debris removal and levelling of the area to ensure it is safe for residents and schoolchildren nearby.

This was following reports of two teenage girls who were found dead near the 15-storey flats on July 24.

Zaiteena said the demolition of the flats have not been conducted by the developer due to several issues.

"There is a temple located within the area.

"This needs to be resolved first before the hoarding could be installed," she said, adding that the developer was very concerned about safety at the site.

"The developer also needs to obtain planning permit for the redevelopment plan, and only then can they put up the hoarding," she added

Saarani said any decisions to be taken must be done properly and within the legal frame.

"Actions cannot be taken without considering the relevant stakeholders," he added.
