She’s Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh now

PUTRAJAYA: International film actress Datuk Seri Michelle Yeoh is among prominent personalities who will receive one of the highest honours awarded in conjunction with the birthday of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah today.

Yeoh, who is the Malaysia brand ambassador, will receive the Panglima Setia Mahkota (P.S.M.) which carries the title “Tan Sri”.

She is among 22 other personalities who will receive the award under the private sector, associations, voluntary and sports category.

Also receiving the award under the same category is economist Datuk Seri Syed Abdul Jabbar Syed Hassan and Datuk Seri Dr M.P. Ramasamy, who is group managing director of major developer IRDKLand Group.

Dr Ramasamy has been credited for being the driving force behind more than RM1bil worth of developments in the Klang Valley while Syed Abdul Jabbar chairs several companies, including Tradewinds (M) Bhd, MMC Corporation Bhd, MARDEC Bhd and Padiberas Nasional Bhd.

Syed Abdul Jabbar was also a board member of Star Publications (M) Bhd.

Star Publications (M) Bhd executive deputy chairman Datuk Vincent Lee Fook Long will also be receiving the same award.

Another recipient is Datuk Seri Clement Hii Chii Kok, who is SEG International Bhd group managing director and HCK Capital Group executive chairman.

Under the political associations category, among personalities who will receive the title of “Tan Sri” are former Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui, former Information, Communications and Culture Mini­ster Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim, former Home Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Radzi Sheikh Ahmad, MCA Federal Territories adviser Datuk Tan Kim Hor.

Prominent public sector personalities who will also receive the award are, among others, Federal Court judge Datuk Ahmad Maarop and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Datuk Seri Abu Kassim Mohamed.

A veteran graft-buster, Abu Kassim has spent nearly 30 years fighting corruption, having joined the then Anti-Corruption Agency in 1984.

With degrees in social sciences and criminal justice, Abu Kassim was appointed MACC chief commissioner in 2010.
