HANOI: Asean members are committed to creating a resilient, dynamic and caring community and working towards boosting the grouping’s centrality and broadening external relations.
Leaders of the 10-member grouping – Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Brunei, Indonesia, the Philippines – who met at the 17th Summit voiced their commitment through the chairman’s statement issued yesterday. The statement said the leaders, in committing to a people-oriented and caring community, wanted the people to play an active role in the community-building process while enhancing the people’s welfare, development of women and children, education and human resources.
