PETALING JAYA: Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Utar) has appointed Prof Datuk Dr Chuah Hean Teik as its new president/ chief executive officer to succeed Tan Sri Datuk Dr Ng Lay Swee from April 1.
Utar is very privileged to welcome a very outstanding scholar and academician and we are very happy that Prof Chuah agreed to lead this university, said Utar council chairman Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik at a press conference here yesterday.

Prof Chuah said he wanted to make Utar a preferred choice of university for all Malaysians.
We have to improve the quality of education, make the syllabus more relevant to the market industry and beef up our R & D activities, he said.
Prof Chuah, 47, is a chartered engineer registered with the UK Engineering Council and has won numerous awards, both locally and internationally, including the Professor Chin Fung Kee Gold Medal for Engineering Management and the Sterling Award from the Sterling Group of Universities for his services in promoting the engineering profession.
Dr Ling also said that Utar was very grateful to Dr Ng, who has retired, for her contributions since its inception.
Asked if he would give MCA any advice, Dr Ling said: We all have our opinions because we have experience. So if they ask us for advice, we will surely give them advice but not publicly.
I have retired. When you have retired, you must really retire and give the young people a fresh chance to gain experience. So far Ive kept my word, he said.
