Puduraya blast not work of militants

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have ruled out the possibility that militants were involved in the bomb explosion at the concourse of the Puduraya bus terminal on Friday night, which injured an 11-year-old girl. 

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said the incident was not related to individuals with links to militants as certain quarters had claimed. 

“All this is speculation. We have ruled out the possibility that it was the work of militants,” he said here yesterday. 

Musa said a task force, comprising several units from the police force, including the bomb disposal unit, has been set up under city police to investigate the motive behind the incident. 

He said police were also taking statements from the victim and other witnesses. 

“We are also looking at the closed-circuit television footage at the terminal,” said Musa. 

Aqilah Nadiah Zamzar was injured when what is believed to be a homemade bomb exploded at the bus terminal that night. 

She suffered burns on her face and several parts of her body when the explosive, placed inside a snack wrapper and left on a concrete bench at the entrance to Platform Seven, went off. 

She was sitting on the bench while her aunt and a cousin were about to sit down when the bomb exploded. The three were waiting to board a bus to Kota Tinggi. 

No one else was hurt in the incident.
