Action on teachers involved in catfight

KUCHING: The two teachers who had reportedly fought in front of some 800 pupils during school assembly will be dealt with “accordingly”, Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said. 

“We have the mechanism to deal with every individual case,” he said, adding that this kind of unruly behaviour would not be tolerated.  

He said disciplinary action would be taken against errant teachers and education officials to protect the good name of the teaching profession. 

Hishammuddin was commenting on reports that two female teachers of SK Seri Setia, Kuala Lumpur, got into a fight during the school assembly on Wednesday. 

It was reported that the teachers, both in their 30s, threw punches, pulled the hair and scratched at each other. 

The minister was speaking to reporters after meeting Sarawak Barisan Nasional Youth leaders at the Kuching Hilton yesterday. 

The Youth leaders were from Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu, Sarawak United People’s Party and Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party.  

Hishammuddin said the incident at SK Seri Setia was an isolated case, adding that he hoped the actions of the teachers concerned would not tarnish the image of the teaching profession. 

During his visits to six rural schools in the state on Saturday, Hishammuddin said he was impressed by the commitment shown by the teachers in their job.
