BAHAU: The death of his three beloved flower horn fish all at the same time seemed to have been too much to bear for a 23-year-old Rela member who was found hanged in his house yesterday.

The body of Ching Kin Fei of Kampung Baru Air Hitam, was found at about 10am.

His grandparents, who came back from work at their family-owned rubber estate, found the body and alerted their neighbours and the authorities.

The body has been sent to the Kuala Pilah Hospital for a post-mortem.

Jempol acting OCPD Asst Supt Makhetar Yaacob said police did not suspect foul play.

The victim’s grandmother, Chiu Chee Yin, 74, said Ching had not been his usual self ever since his three 'pets' died three days ago.

Chiu said his grandson had confided to her that he was depressed and heartbroken over the death of his fish.

“Ching loved the fish very much and spent a lot of time caring for them over the past one year.

“Ever since the fish died, he kept to himself and seldom ate or talked much,” Chiu said.

She had no inkling that her grandson would kill himself in such a manner, she said, breaking into tears.

His grandfather Tam Man, 74, said Ching had been under their care after his parents separated when he was still a toddler.

He said Ching was the only child in the family and that they loved him very much.

“As far as we know, he had no problems with his work and had no girlfriend,” he said.
