KLANG: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad last night received the Darjah Kerabat (DK) award at Istana Alam Shah here.
The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah presented the award at a special investiture. The award is in appreciation of the services rendered by Dr Mahathir to the state and its people.
The Sultan said he felt honoured in conferring the DK to Dr Mahathir, whom he personally knew since 1970s as a close friend of his late father Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah.
The Sultan said, Dr Mahathir used to personally deliver books written by him, to Sultan Salahuddin and he never failed to read them.
“I followed Dr Mahathir's progress since then and I admire him for his great personality and for being a great statesman,” he said.
The Sultan described the Prime Minister as an active, smart and stylish person, whom he admired for keeping himself fit and “young”.
Dr Mahathir, who thanked the Sultan for the award and kind words, hoped he and his family would be blessed with good health.
