PETALING JAYA: Award-winning director Adman Salleh of Paloh is appealing to Finas to allow him to rectify certain technical errors of the film before it is submitted to the Asia-Pacific Film Festival in Iran in October.
Adman made this plea after many quarters, who watched the preview of Paloh recently, gave negative comments, especially on the flashback technique used in the film. .
It prompted one film critic to comment, Paloh is Adman Sallehs worst movie to date.
The director, who was earlier sacked and eventually got his job back after Finas director-general Datuk Shariff Ahmad intervened, blamed technical errors as the cause of distorting the movie flow.
He explained: Many people did not realise that after I was rehired, I only managed to do three things reedit the fine cut, complete the dubbing process and give some ideas on the concept of music for Paloh.
According to Adman, there were other technical areas that he, as the films director and screenplay, was not allowed to do like overseeing the final mixing of sound effects, music and dialogues and marry all these three into check print in the form of audio and picture.
He said the flashback technique was his way of telling the story.
I wanted to use the technique but because of the technical errors, it did not help to explain this confusion.
Shariff, responding to Admans comments, said Paloh has lots of potential and is not the typical Malay film that you have seen before.
The unique plot with the layered flashback technique will challenge the viewers understanding and highlight Admans creativity as a director.
Paloh belongs to Adman because the plot, screenplay and the directing job were all his work. Hence, he is responsible for Paloh. Unlike any other films that have been produced, to understand Paloh one requires critical thinking.
Palohs general screenings start from July 10.
