Sabah cops question seven students over ‘Angel’ group assault

KOTA KINABALU: Seven secondary school students have been called in to assist investigations after a viral video showed a group of students allegedly beating another.

Kota Kinabalu Acting OCPD Supt Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman said the six girls and a boy, aged between 15 and 17, were brought to the police station at around 3pm on Thursday.

He said the boy was believed to be the one recording the incident and spreading it online while they believe the six girls could help shed light as to what happened in the incident.

“They are all being investigated for rioting and criminal intimidation,” he said in a statement on Friday (May 29), adding that all the students were later released on police bail pending further investigations.

This detention came after a 13-year-old girl lodged a police report on May 23, claiming she had been assaulted by a group of girls she knew from a group chat called ‘Angel’ a day earlier.

Police believe this incident could have sparked following a misunderstanding.

The victim alleged that she had sustained many bodily injuries and bruises after the attack, and that her attackers had also threatened her if she told anyone about the said incident.
