TWO Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) graduates were recently awarded digital training scholarships to study video production and digital marketing.

The Yayasan Sime Darby scholarships worth a total of RM22,800 were for Yong Tze Hong and Sim Ai Ling from the Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) to participate in the KRU Masterclass programme.KRU Masterclass is a professional training institution, specialising in programmes related to the creative industry and digital entrepreneurship.

Describing the award as an honour and a surprise, Yong said the scholarship is of great help for B40 families.

“The training has been of great value, especially now that videos have become an essential part of everyday life and content creators are in demand,” he said in a press release dated Sept 14.

Separately, a team of academics from LKC FES were also recognised for their efforts. Assoc Prof Dr Bernard Saw Lip Huat, Dr Yeo Wei Hong, Assoc Prof Dr Chua Kein Huat, Assoc Prof Dr Yew Ming Chian and Dr Rubina Bahar secured a research grant from PMB Aluminium Sdn Bhd for their project titled “Evaluating the energy efficiency and carbon footprint in the aluminium production plant”.

The research project aims to establish a framework to evaluate overall energy consumption to support the implementation of appropriate energy efficiency measures.

Through this industry-academia collaboration, the team of researchers strove to minimise carbon footprint while ensuring sustainable growth for a greener tomorrow.

“We aim to develop strong collaboration with local industries and to work together to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050,” the team said in a press release.

Apart from the efficiency of production, energy efficiency and carbon emission reduction are important key performance indexes in environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG). With the escalating fuel price, industries are adopting renewable energy as companies seek to do their part to address global climate change.
